The Headless Woman

The locket lost, we keep the snapshot:

you in sunlight, leaning on a bonnet,

ankles crossed, in a summer dress.

You are young. But faceless.

A jagged white gap sits on your shoulders.

Somewhere, a stranger thumbs

the broken clasp of a metal heart

to see your bodiless face,

smiling against sunlight, and

remembers a you we never knew.
