ET TU

It wasn’t for this that I left the spouse

Of innocent desire, erstwhile extravaganza

Of unvoiced tears like a hoarsened Scouse

Out for a reckless infinite bonanza;

Or to feel there was a wager in your smile

Your uncut diamond jaw of perseverance

I’d be the last to say you had the guile

For up and coming déclassé sex experience

Only that I truly loved your speech

Your rhyme and rant of justice, fortitude,

Your quelling swelling hope that each to each

Be given such a joyous plenitude;

Not that your aptness for the job of truth factotum

Was just an ageless, timeless simulacrum.
