Death of a Beast in Reverse

I stir and first there is no consciousness

not yet, just dreams of the inanimate

wild fantasies of rock, bone and carbon

stripped of all soul and energy.

Sounds reach me then deep down

the bottom of my ear's whirl and

vibration, the little throb, heartbeat

of life starts in me.

I stretch my ancient limbs,

surprise my skin into breaking

out of its fossil state: death

of a prehistoric beast backwards.

When sap has meandered its gooey way

to the furthermost corners of my mummy self,

brought life to the lifeless, melted rock

and mixed it back in with the divine spark,

I step abroad and say:

                                      breakfast.
