DAVID MOHAN

David Mohan is from Dublin, Ireland. He has received a PhD in English literature from TCD. He has been published in The Moth, Abridged, The Stony Thursday Book and elimae. He has won the Hennessy/Sunday Tribune Poetry Award, as well as the 2008 overall New Irish Writer Award. In 2010 he was chosen to participate in the Poetry Ireland Introductions Series. More recently he won the 2012 Cafe Writers’ International Poetry Competition. He is currently nominated for The Pushcart Prize.
The Collar
The collar, invisible ring.
No putting on or off
removes it from our lives —
we are drawn close by it
when you fix my neck-pin
dressing for my sister’s wedding.
You lace your fingers round,
doing buttons, the napkin shapes
that flex like dove wings, then settle,
head piece of folded silk.
Red is our colour this morning
and forever—I brush your hand as
it comes to rest at this knot ...
