The Collar

The collar, invisible ring.

No putting on or off

removes it from our lives

we are drawn close by it

when you fix my neck-pin

dressing for my sister’s wedding.

You lace your fingers round,

doing buttons, the napkin shapes

that flex like dove wings, then settle,

head piece of folded silk.

Red is our colour this morning

and foreverI brush your hand as

it comes to rest at this knot ...
