The Wedding Party
Some minutes from now this room will be empty,
the clatter and drama of words spilt on the wing
evaporating in silence, along with a slant of shadows
banished by sunlight, the sideshow of senior males
bestowing wisdom with a comic twist, a flurry of kids
on the forest floor, tears sobbed beyond the usual measure,
neighbours dropping in for one last look, the engine
diminishing toward some direction we can only guess at.
