Lachaise
Jim refuses to preside
over the disappointing trend,
but the visiting hours never end.
Break on through to the other side ...
The Divine Sarah, bedridden,
performs under strict quarantine,
her uninterrupted deathscene.
The curtain falls, all else is hidden.
Despite the lipstick platitude
Oscar allows, the lilies & letters,
this stratagem for eluding debtors
does nothing to improve his mood.
With no one near enough to hear,
Molière rehearses his complaints
while rusted cast iron restraints
hold back the sympathetic ear.
Even Heloise & Abelard,
Passion’s eternal dignitaries,
paralyzed in reliquaries,
say nothing. Marble lips are hard.
