Christmas Eve, Tiaquin Bog
At Tiaquin, the grass
had failed to skeletons.
The only leaves were ivy
and a glazed barren holly.
The sun cooled, flushed again,
then birds piped, hidden in the trees.
They flagged contests of survival,
encoded the mystery of birth.
