Kiss
We take the path through St. Anne’s,
past the angel who drops a blossom on our
bended heads as we lower ourselves over the wall.
Past the long gone folk who wink at us
in their dreams. They whip up a wind
to set the leaves dancing.
Under the blackthorn arch,
squeeze through the broken gate
and come out on the path.
When we did this for the first time
did you know that I would
recognise the angel?
That our first kiss would happen
on the wall?
our second on the bench
which nature eats at day by day?
Soon it will fall away
and no plaque remains to say,
this is the place we set love free,
where I sat for the first time
on your knee.
